The Farm and the Family

Topaz Farm is a private breeding and training barn located in High Shoals, Ga. (15 minutes outside of Athens). The farm is owned and run by me, Julie Memler, with the help of my husband, Kip Jones. We have an exciting new addition, our son, Jackson, who was born Oct. 19, 2005!

Kip is a professional musician who plays weddings, corporate parties, etc. with his band, or solo. (His website is www.kipjonesmusic.com if you are having an event in the future).

All of our horses are treated as members of the family, though some must go as we have more babies! Our permanent members are Doc (Collected Remarks) and Lady (Bolero's Lady), as they are our foundation stock and are very special!

We have 13 acres of pasture with individual and group turnout. Full board is available at times. We have a 20 x 40 (meter) dessage arena, a large round pen with lights, and jumps located in the fields. We are working on cross country jumps. We have a 6 stall barn with seperate tack and feed rooms and an outside 2 stall shed. Horses are treated with respect and boarders' horses treated like our own. <back to top>
Our focus is breeding qualtiy appaloosa sport horses. You will not find many of our babies in halter classes, because we believe in letting horses be horses as they mature. Our horses are handled every day, including the babies and broodmares, but we do not begin formal training until they are 2 years old, when we start them in the round pen. We do not ride until they are 3 or 4 (with a few exceptions), when the horses' joints are mostly developed. (This is the recommended training regiment of Dressage great Reiner Kimke.) This ensures a horse that will be strong and ride well into old age. If you buy a horse that was bred and raised on our farm, you will know that you are buying an athlete as well as a friend! <back to top>
